GOD KNOWS - HE REALLY DOES

Over the past few weeks I have been playing one very beautiful song over and over again as I have driven the car to and from hospital. It’s called “God knows” and it’s on a privately published CD.  I have tried to find it on the internet but it does not seem to be there, so here are the words:

GOD KNOWS

He hears you when you cry - God knows

He sees the reason why - God knows

He knows just how much you can bear

It grieves Him when you think He doesn’t care

'Cos He knows

He holds you when you fall - God knows

The God who sees it all – He knows

He loves it when you call His name

In times of joy or deep and darkest pain

He knows - oh yes God knows

There’s a promise in His Word:

To trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

And the breath of God that lives in these words will set you free

If you believe, if you believe

He has the perfect plan - God knows

The Spirit says “I can” - God knows

He always has the best for you

Just hold on to your faith

He’ll see you through

‘Cos when all is said and done - God knows

He hears you when you cry - God knows

He sees the reason why - God knows

He will always make a way – God knows

And His love will never fade – God knows

‘Cos when all is said and done God knows… God knows

When I was a teenager going through different things, “spiritual” people would sometimes try to reassure me by telling me “Oh don’t worry, the Lord knows.”  That was very irritating because I did know a bit of theology by that time and I wanted to reply: “Of course God knows – He’s omniscient, He knows EVERYTHING - but I WANT TO KNOW!”

Then as the years went by I realised there was a word missing: yes God knows – but God knows BEST! He knows what He’s doing and as the song says He knows what’s “best for you.”

Thinking about this further I realised there are other words that can be added to that as well:

God knows – the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). He knew what was coming and He didn’t stop it) and He is going to bring about His sovereignly wise ending.

God knows – what He is doing He is at work in the situation and another thing I have learned over the years is that He is usually doing many many things at once!

God knows – and cares (Matthew 10:29)

God knows – how frail we are (He remembers we are dust) and He is able to supply to our weakness with faith, strength and love.

God knows - the way I take, and when He has tested me I shall come forth as gold (Job 23 v 10)

God knows - how to make all grace abound to you (2 Cor 9 v 8)

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! (Romans 11:33)
